About Me

"Hope and fear can not occupy the same space.  Invite one to stay."

Maya Angelou

"I am a lover of the natural world, a perennial student who seeks knowledge and truths wherever they may be found, a mother, a traveller, and an explorer of the self and the Self, in a nutshell."

A Bit More About Me

My life’s work has been in the holistic healing arts since the early 1990’s. My own multiracial, panspiritual make up drew me initially to naturopathic medicine, for it seemed to offer an appealing balance between the diverse realms of art and science, mind and body, and spirit and matter. I spent several years in downtown Toronto, Ontario practicing as a naturopathic doctor and a massage therapist before deciding to pursue training in psychotherapy. This new call was born out of a deepening understanding of the interdependent roles of mind, body, relationality, and spirit in the human experience. Currently, I maintain a private practice in downtown Guelph, Ontario.

I identify as an integrative holistic psychotherapist, drawing from many theoretical frameworks including systemic, psychodynamic, experiential, cognitive behavioural, and somatic, as well as diverse cultural-spiritual-theological frameworks including North and South American and African Indigenous, Jewish and Christian mystical, and Eastern meditative teachings and practices.

I have a Bachelor of Science from McGill University, a Masters degree in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy from Wilfrid Laurier University, and I hold the professional designations of Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Massage Therapist, Chartered Herbalist, Spiritual Director, and Clinical Supervisor. I am a peer coach for the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a consultant on their inaugural diversity, equity, inclusion working group. I am a former Director on the Board for the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington.

“ Choice is a divine teacher, for when we choose we learn that nothing is ever put in our path without a reason.”
Iyanla Vanzant

In addition to clinical practice, I’ve been involved in a variety of educator roles:
>college level adult educator, teaching and creating syllabi in neurology and nutrition courses for massage therapy students;
>leading youth and teen workshops on mental health;
>programming, coordinating and facilitating conferences, including Ryerson University’s International Conference on the Art and Science of Traditional Medicines;
>facilitating meditation and dreamwork workshops for healthcare practitioners;
>creating and facilitating educational and supportive seminars on BIPOC wellness and racial trauma for Algoma University, the National Arts Centre, and the House of Friendship.

I’m a freelance writer with several publications on areas of interest in my field (see Blog), and I continue to participate in professional peer groups for psychotherapy and supervision. My ongoing interests and trainings cover a vast spectrum from neuroscience to shamanism, and inform my orientation to the myriad ways culture, faith traditions, race, ecology, politics, and gender (to name a few) govern one’s experience of the material and non-material dimensions of the human condition.

I also make time to feed my soul, and stay fit, by teaching and taking a Latin dance-inspired fitness class called ZUMBA, which allows me to literally shake things up on a regular basis.

“Consciousness begets matter, language begets reality, ritual begets relationship, nature begets purpose, and love begets life.”
Don Oscar Miro-Quesada
